GCB Bank PLC has announced plans to introduce a specialized savings product tailored to assist Muslim customers in fulfilling their dream of undertaking the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.

The announcement was made by the Executive Head of Retail Banking, Mr. Sina Kamagate, during a courtesy visit to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at his residence in Fadama-Accra on Wednesday, June 4.

The visit, which included the donation of a large bull and cash to support the upcoming Eid al-Adha festivities, formed part of GCB’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

“Today’s visit is essentially a visit that has become part of GCB’s CSR. Indeed, as a bank that operates within a country where we are multi-religious, we appreciate the essence of certain religious celebrations,” Mr. Kamagate stated.

He highlighted Eid al-Adha, which will be observed in two days, as a sacred occasion for Muslims, commemorating the sacrifices of the Prophet Ibrahim.

GCB’s donation is aimed at supporting the Chief Imam in hosting community members during the festival.

“More importantly, we came to check how he is doing. We don’t downplay the role of our eminent chiefs and clerical and religious leaders, because the peace we enjoy in this country is because of their watch and their prayers,” he added.

Mr. Kamagate also unveiled the upcoming launch of the Hajj Account a dedicated savings product designed to support Muslims with aspirations of performing Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage.

“As a bank, we know why we were established. Very soon, you’ll hear that we are launching an account that we are calling the Hajj Account. This account is typically going to help Muslims who have aspirations of embarking on a religious journey to the holy land of Mecca,” he explained.

He further emphasized that the product is designed to be inclusive and accessible, especially for individuals who are gradually building up their savings toward this important religious milestone.

“Beyond this, we do not discriminate in terms of all the offerings we give. We have church accounts, mosque accounts, and all that,” Mr. Kamagate affirmed, reinforcing GCB’s commitment to serving Ghana’s diverse religious communities.

The Chief Imam expressed deep appreciation for the bank’s continuous support and innovative approach, particularly in designing financial products that cater to the needs of faith-based communities.
