Incumbent President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr Albert Dwumfour, has been re-elected to lead the Association after securing 64 percent of the votes in an election held on June 30. His only contender, Mr Charles Mawusi, received 36 percent of the ballots.
Mr Dwumfour’s campaign, which highlighted his achievements over the past three years, appeared to resonate strongly with members of the Association.
Madam Rebecca Ekpe, Editor of GBConline, emerged as the new Vice President of the GJA, claiming 60 percent of the votes. She defeated Mary Mensah of the Daily Graphic, who polled 40 percent.
Mr Dominic Hlordzi was also elected as General Secretary with 64 percent of the vote.
Chairman of the Elections Planning Committee, Mr Peter Martey Agbeko, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.
“On behalf of this committed team, I am pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2025 National and Regional Executive Elections of the Ghana Journalists Association, conducted peacefully and credibly across the nation,” he said.
He extended his congratulations to the newly elected officials and commended all candidates for their participation.
“We extend heartfelt congratulations to all elected candidates. Your victory is a call to service. To those who were not successful your courage to step forward is commendable. We urge you to stay involved. The GJA needs your voice and your commitment.
“The elections are over. Let us now close ranks, build bridges, and move forward in unity under the leadership of our new executives,” Mr Agbeko stated.
