The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and several development and private sector partners, will commemorate the 2025 International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day with a national event in Accra.
This year’s celebration, themed “Empowering MSMEs, Connecting Entrepreneurs for a Digital and Sustainable Future,” underscores government’s commitment to digital innovation and inclusive growth, with a strong focus on strengthening institutional support for MSMEs.
Ahead of the celebration, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, reiterated government’s commitment to nurturing Ghanaian MSMEs to be competitive at home and abroad. “MSMEs are the backbone of our national transformation, and we are positioning Ghanaian MSMEs to not only thrive locally but to become active players in global supply chains,” she said. “By embracing digital tools and platforms, our entrepreneurs can break traditional barriers, expand their market reach, and compete confidently on the international stage.”
She further urged development partners, financial institutions, and private sector leaders to work together in support of a resilient MSME environment that fosters inclusive growth.
CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Ms. Margaret Ansei, added that this year’s observance will highlight the key role MSMEs play in job creation and innovation.
She stated the initiative aims to facilitate digital adoption by at least 70% of participating MSMEs and link 200 enterprises to critical digital and mobile banking platforms. “This year’s MSME Day is a call to action empowering MSMEs through digital transformation and building long-term resilience,” she said.
From the United Nations Capital Development Fund, Arianna Gasparri noted the global significance of the celebration under the UN Joint Programme on Leveraging Digital Ecosystems for Increased MSME Productivity, which is funded by the European Union via the UN Joint SDG Fund.
“This initiative is about more than funding; it’s about building resilient systems and unlocking private sector investment in underserved markets,” Ms. Gasparri noted.
Angela Mensah Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer for MTN Ghana, acknowledged GEA’s leadership in convening support for MSMEs and reaffirmed the telecom giant’s commitment. “At MTN Ghana, we’re proud to support MSMEs with smart digital tools and MoMo solutions that help them do business smarter, faster, and better,” she said.
The 2025 MSME Day celebration is expected to draw over 250 in-person participants and over 1,000 virtual attendees from government, development institutions, academia, financial services, and the business community.
Activities include high-level policy dialogues, MSME business clinics, a digital innovation showcase, workshops on capacity building, and a Made-in-Ghana exhibition promoting local products and services.
Entrepreneurs will also share their success stories and receive hands-on guidance on matters such as compliance, funding access, and scaling their businesses. The event reinforces Ghana’s continued effort to build a digitally empowered MSME sector capable of propelling national development.
