The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that NiBS University has proposed the establishment of a scholarship scheme dubbed the “Speaker’s Scholarship for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Staff”.

According to the Speaker, the initiative was developed in recognition of what the University described as his “inspirational and transformational leadership and commitment to Ghana’s democratic and institutional development,” as well as his “visionary leadership which is pivotal in promoting academic advancement and capacity building among Parliamentarians and Staff.”

Addressing the House, Speaker Bagbin indicated that the scholarship will support various graduate-level programmes with substantial financial coverage. He outlined that the offerings include a PhD in Business Administration worth $7,599, a Doctor of Business Leadership valued at $6,999, a Doctor of Public Sector Innovation and Leadership at $5,599, and several Master’s programmes valued at $1,399.

He emphasised that the scholarships would foster lifelong learning among Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Service staff, ultimately enhancing policy research, legislative analysis, and the integration of academic insight into governance.

“These scholarships from NiBS University will promote lifelong learning among Members of Parliament and Staff of Parliamentary Service, which will strengthen policy research and legislative analysis, and bridge the gap between academia and governance.”

He urged Members and Staff to embrace the opportunity for academic advancement.

He stated, “I call on all Members and Staff of the Parliamentary Service to take full advantage of the Speaker’s Scholarship for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Staff to be empowered with degrees that wield innovation and offer the type of Leadership that propels Parliament to meet the expectations of the good people of Ghana.”

Some Members of Parliament from both Majority and Minority sides lauded the initiative, commending the Speaker for championing a vision that not only supports individual development but also promotes institutional excellence.
