The Government of Ghana has announced a GH¢40 million seed funding package aimed at strengthening four newly established public universities, with each institution receiving GH¢10 million through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) under the 2025 budget.

Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement during the 5th Congregation Ceremony of the C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region. “This government is fully committed to nurturing our young public universities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to develop and provide quality education that meets the demands of our evolving economy,” he said.

The beneficiaries of the funding are:

  • C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS)
  • University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
  • University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
  • S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SD-UBIDS)

According to the Minister, the fund will support infrastructure expansion, enhance academic output, and improve the learning environment across the institutions. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader government strategy to widen access to tertiary education and build critical human capital for national development.

The announcement drew enthusiastic applause from graduates, faculty, and dignitaries, reflecting the high hopes attached to the government’s investment in Ghana’s higher education sector.
