Tension erupted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) as the office of the Human Resources Manager, Anthony Kofi Oduro, was forcibly locked with chains and padlocks by unidentified individuals claiming to be national security operatives.
Upon returning from a meeting on Tuesday, the HR Manager found his office inaccessible, with warning messages posted at the scene. The inscriptions read: “Workers are working under a toxic environment, withdraw your service now or face our wrath,” “Tony must go,” and “KATH workers deserve better.”
Security personnel from KATH, the police, and the regional security liaison intervened to remove the locks and restore access to the office.
Deputy Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Nje Abdullah Omar, denied any involvement in the incident and assured that a joint investigation with the police would be conducted to identify those responsible.
“We don’t have any idea about it. Captain Jabari [Regional Security Coordinator] says we have not sanctioned anyone to come and do what just happened,” he stated.
He further explained, “We cannot justify if this is an internal matter but the investigation will determine. The HR wasn’t around when they came to lock up the office, so he was shocked and I have calmed him down.”
The sudden action left workers at the hospital in confusion and uncertainty, as authorities work to uncover the motive behind the protest.
