The government has disbursed GH¢987,965,730 to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) as the first-quarter allocation for 2025, reinforcing its commitment to decentralisation and local governance.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement while addressing Parliament on Tuesday, June 3.
He revealed that the transfer was executed on Monday, June 2, directly from the Consolidated Fund.
“As of yesterday, the DACF has received and we have transferred GH¢987,965,730 from the Consolidated Fund,” Dr. Forson told lawmakers.
He emphasized the statutory obligation for swift distribution, ensuring that 80 per cent of the allocated funds reach district assemblies without delay.
“The Administrator of the DACF is required to ensure that 80% of this amount is transferred directly to the district assemblies without fail. Expenditure returns must be submitted to the Ministry of Finance before any subsequent releases are made,” he stated.
Dr. Forson further urged Members of Parliament to actively monitor the use of these funds within their constituencies to guarantee accountability and adherence to cabinet-approved spending directives.
“Honourable Members of Parliament are encouraged to monitor the utilisation of these funds in their respective districts, in line with the directives approved by the cabinet of President John Dramani Mahama,” he added.
The timely disbursement is expected to support various developmental initiatives across Ghana’s districts, aiding efforts to enhance local governance and public services.
