Key stakeholders in Ghana’s maritime industry are calling on the government to provide a clear policy direction following the appointment of a new Director-General for the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG) is among the groups seeking clarity.
Mr. Adam Imoru Ayarna, an executive member of SOAAG, emphasized the importance of outlining strategic plans for the ports to ensure that industry players can align with the government’s vision.
In an interview with Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Ayarna stressed that the maritime sector is a key driver of Ghana’s economy, and it is essential for all stakeholders to work in harmony under a well-defined policy framework.
He further urged the government to implement business-friendly policies that would foster growth and efficiency for companies operating at the ports.
On the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, Mr. Ayarna noted that its success would depend on thorough risk assessment and proper planning to ensure its feasibility in the maritime sector.
He stressed that stakeholders remain hopeful that the government will provide the necessary policy clarity to enhance port operations and support Ghana’s economic growth.
